What happens at CHAOS?
CHAOS meets weekly on Wednesday nights at the Family Life Center at Nazareth Lutheran Church. Address: 7401 University Avenue, Cedar Falls.
The doors open at 6:15pm. Pizza is available for $1.00 each. Programming runs from 6:30pm-8:00pm and consists of a student-led worship band, games/interaction, video clips, a spiritual focus message to promote community, excitement, service, and unity. It is followed by small group of 5-8 students and 1-2 leaders whose purpose it to support each other as they live life together and as they pursue following Christ.
On Wednesday nights, small groups can sign up to volunteer for the evening at the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. On their designate night to volunteer, an adult leader will drive them in the church van to the food bank. They will return at 8pm to Nazareth church to be picked up by parents.
CHAOS also has three major events throughout the year. The Event in the fall, Ski & Shop in the winter and a mission trip in the summer. CHAOS also has different events throughout the summer.
Is there a shuttle ride from Orchard Hill’s family dinner to Nazareth?
Yes. When there is a meal served at Orchard Hill church for families an adult will drive students from Orchard Hill to Nazareth in the church van. The van leaves between 6:20-25 and will pick up students outside of the Main Office entrance.
Are there scholarships available for students who want to attend a CHAOS event?
Yes, there are scholarships available for our three CHAOS events. If a student needs a scholarship, please talk to one of the youth group directors.
Is every student in a small group?
Yes. Every student involved at CHAOS is placed in a small group which meets for 30-45 minutes each Wednesday night at CHAOS. Small groups are formed at the beginning of the school year with intentions of remaining the same for the duration of that school year.
Do small groups meet outside of CHAOS?
YES! It depends on the small group leaders and their ability to schedule outside meetings. In any case of a scheduled small group meeting outside of CHAOS, such as an overnight, the small group leader will distribute a Parent Letter to be signed by the parent giving their student permission to attend.
Do I have to attend one of the partner churches to go to CHAOS?
No, CHAOS is open to any junior high student (grade 7-9) in the Cedar Valley and no church affiliation is required. Feel free to bring a friend too!
We do highly encourage the student and their family to be a part of a church congregation, wherever that may be.
